WBB: Vikings climb back to .500 with win over Morris

The Valley City State women’s basketball team climbed back to the .500 mark Saturday, leading coast-to-coast in a 77-55 victory over Minnesota-Morris. Stephanie Pedersen continued her torrid offensive stretch with 21 points Saturday. A junior from Mandan, N.D., Pedersen has now reached double figures in six consecutive games. Over that stretch Pedersen is averaging 15 points a game. She also added three assists and three steals Saturday.Valley City State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Saturday, opening up a 42-20 margin at the halftime break. Brittany Lehner posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ashli Lee added nine points and seven rebounds off the bench and Sadiqah Jihad added eight points and four assists. The Vikings shot 40 percent from the field and knocked down 33 percent (9-for-27) of their 3-pointers. VCSU also tallied 15 offensive rebounds and forced 22 Morris turnovers. The Vikings improve to 6-6 on the season and have now won three of their last four games. The 77 points scored is the second highest total this season for VCSU, topped only by an 83-50 win over Viterbo back on Nov. 22. That game against Viterbo was also the last home game VCSU played before Saturday. Up next: Valley City State goes on the road to play games Jan. 10 and 11 in Denver, Colo., against Northern New Mexico and Johnson & Wales.
